I'm combining 5 months and Thankful Thursday, because they go hand in hand! We are thankful for 5 of the best months of our lives parenting this precious lady!!
This month has been much more relaxed than last month! We settled in to our new home and established a bit of a routine. Below are some things of note going in the baby book.
{Warning! This became a longer post than initially intended, but the detail is mainly for my sake. I won't blame you if you don't read every word. ;)}
Eat: You are still nursing exclusively, but we did add some rice cereal to the menu to up your iron levels. We give you one serving every other day at your last feed time before bed in addition to your normal feed. You gobble it up and love eating like a big girl! You also try to eat mommy's food when you are in her lap and drink her drink by grabbing her cup of water. I think we may start you on some solids in the next month and see how it goes. :) Your daily meals are approx. as follows: 7am, 10:30am, 2pm, 6pm (with rice cereal), night feed between 2-4am. It varies each day slightly, but you go about 31/2 to 4 hours between feeds during the day and have one feed at night.
We are trying {again} to get you to take a bottle. So far, though not happy about it, you have done pretty well.
Sleep: TYPICALLY, you sleep pretty well, though lately with the whole rolling over thing, we've been having some issues. Hopefully, when your crib bumper arrives, you will stop getting your legs caught in the rails and will sleep better and then mommy won't have to check on you every 20 minutes! :( Unfortunately for mommy, at night you sleep the most between 7pm and about 3-4 am. That's a good amount of sleep for you, but when mommy gets in bed at 11pm, she doesn't get as much as she would like uninterrupted. (But, that's her fault, right??) Daddy and Mommy gave up trying to keep you on your back-- you just weren't having it! So, now you sleep mostly on your stomach or side. You seem to really like it and if you're happy, we're happy! You nap about 3 times a day for 45 min- 2 hours a piece. I haven't really noticed whether you prefer longer morning or afternoon naps. It really varies from day to day. You must have gotten your mother's inability to stick with a routine!
Play: You love playing on your playmat and grabbing all the bright, dangly items, but now that you prefer being on your tummy, mommy has moved some of the objects to the floor so you can reach them. You do really well in your bumbo, but it's not your favorite at this point. You love to roll around and play on the floor in your room with mommy. You love reading books, putting your own and other people's fingers in your mouth (or anything really), and talking/singing with mommy.
Your favorite song is Amazing Grace! Not joking, you smile EVERY TIME mommy starts to sing it to you. Sometimes you get bored before mommy finishes, but the first line "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound" elicits a smile like clockwork. :) Mommy's favorite is "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing", so you hear that one a lot, too. You also like 'Row Row Row your Boat'! It makes you giggle with delight and, though you smile so often it's crazy, you are still stingy with your laughter! At night, I sing "Goodnight, my Someone" from The Music Man before putting you in your crib. Mommy sometimes has trouble thinking up new songs to sing, but you don't seem to mind the 10 or so she has in the rotation. You love anything that makes a noise, has bright colors/patterns, and lights up (I'm sure as most children do.) Mommy and Daddy are researching some new toys to get you, b/c you have seemed to get bored a bit lately.
You really enjoy being outside, though you seem to get so warm really fast. Mommy wants to take you outside more, but the heat and humidity are so icky. She promises to try and do it more often, though. You continue to enjoy bath time and having your diaper changed - PTL!
New: This month you have become a rolling-over fiend! You do it all the time, every time you are put on your back. You also try to move around a bit to reach for toys or mommy. You love to reach and grab everything-- especially mommy's hair, eyeglasses, face, utensils, cups, toys, etc etc. You have a really strong grip, too, so sometimes it hurts!!! Mommy has some facial scars to prove it. With the rolling, comes a scary new reality-- rolling off or out of things! Daddy and Mommy are now EXTRA vigilant when you are on the changing table, bed, bouncy seat, or even in their ARMS (because you are known to flip yourself out of them!) For the first time, you rode in the BOB without the carseat and took a nap next to mommy and daddy in their bed!
Overall, we love love love you and you continue to be a great source of joy and pride in our lives! Daddy and I are very THANKFUL that you are happy and healthy.
Happy 5 months, Miss Georgia Kate!
