So, I'm still getting used to walking about in public with my sweet little one in tow! I feel like she's this amazing accessory that everyone wants to see and oooo and ahhh over. Don't get me wrong, I totally understand-- I mean, I think now that I have a baby I do that more to other people than I did before-- even when she's not with me! Babies are just so darn cute! :)
I think she brings joy to people and that is a beautiful thing! But, anyway, I have had this particular incident happen a couple times already and it happened again yesterday. I was sitting in the doctor's office and had gotten GK out of her car seat (which was in her snap and go stroller) and was letting her cool off. She gets super duper hot in that car seat-- do other mothers deal with that?! It worries me at times. Anyway, so there are these two older ladies (old as in late 70s) and they just started gasping and saying how much they love babies and she's just precious and all that. Then, one of them says, "Wow. She's a beautiful baby!", glances up at me, and then with her very next breath "She must look like her Daddy."
hahahahahahaha.
I totally know she wasn't meaning it as an insult! The girl has light brown hair and blue eyes for pete's sake, but the juxtaposition of those two statements is funny to me. It's not the first time that exact sequence has occurred, so I thought I'd share...
Think of it as your Tuesday Funny. :)

Oh my! Im glad you can laugh about it, Leslie :) I am sure she didn't mean that you aren't beautiful because you totally are! ....and yes, whenever I pull Brandly out of his carseat he is super sweaty!
ReplyDeleteElle is SUPER sweaty! Especially in this ridiculous heat. You are gorgeous....I wish people could record what they say and listen to it again :) Makes me wonder what I have said to people...eek!
ReplyDeleteOh, and NICE use of juxtaposition...that's a $5 word for sure!
Glad to hear we are not the only sweaty car seat baby out there! But, I wish it could be better!
ReplyDeleteI totally don't think the woman even realized what she was saying and like you said, Ana, it makes me wonder when I've put my foot-in-mouth!
Oh, and I love me some $5 words! ;)
